Dr. Balk joined the practice in September of 2000. He is board
certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery with
the Certificate of Added Qualification in Hand Surgery.
After obtaining his undergraduate and medical degree from the
University of Pennsylvania, he completed a residency in Orthopaedic
Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Balk continued
his training in hand and upper extremity surgery at Allegheny
General Hospital where he completed a one-year fellowship in
August 2000. Dr. Balk has completed voluntary assignment with
Orthopaedics Overseas in Honduras, Peru, Costa Rica, and Africa
He has been named one of the senior editors for
a new textbook sponsored by
the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He also serves on
the Board of Directors of Orthopaedic Overseas.
Dr. Balk, Clinical Assistant Professor, Department
of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine,
is on the medical staff at UPMC Presbyterian/Shadyside, UPMC St.
Margaret's, UPMC Passavant/Cranberry, Allegheny General Hospital,
Jefferson Regional Medical Center , and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
